The Reviving God. Thats not a troll thread, all the people from ijji, aeria read: Dear GunZ Players, We regret to inform you that unfortunately GunZ will be closing on May 31st, This decision was not taken lightly and only decided on after thorough discussion with Aeria's internal teams and MAIET.
Red Duck, Inc. Alliance of Valiant Arms abbreviated as A. The North American and European version of the game was shut down on June 29, Now, with new game genres such as Battle Royales, people have almost entirely lost interest in this form of gaming.
Due to this, MMOs have been seeing far less development over the last decade, with fewer releases than ever. While the MMO genre as we knew it years ago is not dead by any means, it has certainly evolved. While this may be fine for PC and console games, the rise in smartphone technology has made it incredibly easy to create a bad MMO game on a mobile platform. In the event of a video game developer shutting down, the assets of that company can be, and usualy are, sold to other companies.
If a new company were to buy the rights to the game, then the game is theirs to do with what they please. There could be a memory leak, a single but catastrophic line of incorrect code, or a spot of lag buried somewhere in the enormous server pipeline. The North American version of the game has been transferred over to Aeria Games due to the acquisition of ijji by Aeria Games. GunZ was doomed to die from the beginning. The only reason GunZ survived to begin with is because the glitches made the mechanics of the game unique.
Yet MAIET failed to capitalize in just about every way possible: Too many hackers, slow development, outdated graphics, poor underlying game engine, poor marketing. This led to hackers and high-ping players migrating and causing a generally unenjoyable experience that ultimately became one of the factors of the shutdown. It unfortunately died a slow death over the years due to negligence from its developers and owners and rampant hacking, but GunZ players often still look back fondly at the game.
There are still private servers to play GunZ on. It was confirmed that GunZ will be coming to Steam, which is excellent news!
